User Comments about Abilify
21 Dec 2014 Abilify has been effective as a treatment for me. I take 5 mg./day and have been on it for roughly 5 weeks. I am using as an adjunct medication to Latuda, Wellbutrin, and Oxcarbazepine and it has stabilized this latest mood swing very nicely. I am calm and I have not gotten angry ( my worst symptom). Things roll of my back much better now. The drawbacks are it has increased my blood pressure and pulse and caused some additional weight gain. Overall, a very good medication and I would suggest it for anyone dealing with Bipolar Depression.

22 Mar 2014 My 12 year old son started Ability 5 weeks ago and we are so happy with the results. Before starting Ability, he was always short tempered and would become physically violent over minor things. As he is 6 foot tall and 200 pounds, I was constantly worried about the safety of his little sisters. He didn't sleep well, didn't bath, and we had to force him to leave the house. He has been home schooled because he didn't fit well at school and was being bullied. A couple weeks after starting Ability, we noticed that he was not yelling or hitting as much. He is sleeping better, bathing more and has been going out to spend time with friends again. He says that he feels calmer and that people are not annoying him all the time now. We are still trying to get his insurance company to cover his Ability, but given how well it is working, we will find a way to keep him on Ability.

18 Oct 2013 I loved this medicine despite it's scary side effects, mostly because I would wake up at 6:00 am bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Before starting this medication, I spent all my time in bed, crying. I wasn't depressed after I started taking it, I became angry and violent instead. I didn't "get" that it was the drug doing this to me until my insurance didn't pay for my refill and I was forced to go off it cold turkey a few months ago. I got better, I am a kind person again, but withdrawing from Abilify was HELL! It breaks my heart knowing they put little kids on this HEAVY, HEAVY drug. Think twice.

28 Nov 2012 I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder 6 years ago but wonder if I was misdiagnosed and have major depression. Either way, Abilify helped. I took half of a 15mg (7.5mg) each day and I felt a lot of relief from my severe depression. This was also paired with 150mg of Lamictal. So, I suppose it could have been the Lamictal that helped more, it's hard to say since I never took one without the other. The major downsides were the weight gain- at age 22 its hard to gain 30 pounds in two months and feel good about yourself. Also knowing it is an antipsychotic made me feel bad about myself because it's also a medication for schizophrenia, and I shouldn't care if it helps but I did care, and I felt bad about myself as if I were crazy. Also my boyfriend did tell me I would talk in my sleep a lot and even get up to eat. I do not remember this. Sometimes it caused memory problems for me. I would forget the events of what I had done that day when asked.. that was tough.. I would recommend someone take this medication if you aren't very concerned about gaining weight or if you are desperate and regular antidepressants aren't working, as they don't for me. It did help me, I felt happy. But there's a cost. Check out the pricetag before you get going on this medication. It can like 600 dollars a month since there is no generic yet. (we got ours shipped in from canada drugs much cheaper)
