The generic name of this medication is nifedipine and brand names are Adalat CC, Procardia, Procardia XL.
Adalat is manufactured by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc.
The active ingredient of this medication is nifedipine.
Mainly used to lower hypertension (high blood pressure) and to treat angina (chest pain).

Common Uses:

This medication is used to lower hypertension (high blood pressure) and to treat angina (chest pain).

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Unusually fast or slow heartbeats.
Severe dizziness or fainting.
Psychosis.
Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
Swelling of the legs or ankles.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not advisable in patients with kidney disease, liver disease.
Not advisable in patients with other diseases of the heart or blood vessels such as sick sinus syndrome, aortic stenosis, heart failure, low blood pressure, or coronary artery disease.
Not advisable during pregnancy.

About Nifedipine

Nifedipine (brand name Adalat, Nifedical, and Procardia) is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. Its main uses are in angina pectoris (especially Prinzmetal's angina) and hypertension, although a large number of other uses have recently been found for this agent, such as Raynaud's phenomenon, premature labor, and painful spasms of the esophagus in cancer and tetanus patients. It is also commonly used for the small subset of pulmonary hypertension patients whose symptoms respond to calcium channel blockers.
