The generic name of this medication is phentermine and brand names are Adipex-P, Fastin, Ionamin, Obenix, Obephen, Oby-Cap, Oby-Trim, Panshape M, Phentercot, Phentride, Pro-Fast HS, Pro-Fast SA, Pro-Fast SR, Teramine and Zantryl.

Adipex is manufactured by Gate Pharmaceuticals.

The active ingredients of this medication are arephentermine hydrochloride and dimethylphenylethylamine.

Mainly used to treat obesity in patients with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat obesity in patients with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Chest pain, swelling in your ankles or feet, feeling light-headed, fainting or feeling shortness of breath with mild exertion.
Fast or uneven heartbeat.
Unusual thoughts or behavior, feeling restless or confused.
Increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not advisable in patients allergic to this medicine.
Not advisable in patients with heart disease, high blood pressure,
arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), overactive thyroid, other problems with thyroid, glaucoma, anxiety disorder, epilepsy, other seizure disorders or
diabetes.

Drug Interactions:
Medicines to treat high blood pressure.
Insulin or diabetes medication taken orally.
Guanadrel (Hylorel), guanethidine (Ismelin).
Antidepressants such as citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft).
Antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), amoxapine (Ascendin), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil).

Im happy with the weight loss Ive recieved from Adipex-p. Im undergoing doctors care now for my pain. Im not sure my pain is from the medicine or not. I just had an MRI of my neck on Tues. I may have a ruptured disk. I do work in a factory. I went to a Neurolorgist though last month and he was basically insinuating that he thought it was the Adipex without coming right out and saying so. Ive been looking alot on the computer trying to find something..havent found much, although that it is a nerve stimulant?? But it absolutly does work for weight lose. I have lost 50 ilbs. I have not been at this weight since high school and im 33 yrs old. I just hope my doctor can make this terrible pain go away. I go back to the doc Monday..wish me luck :)
