The generic name of this medication is Everolimus and brand name is Afinitor.

The active ingredient of this medication is everolimus and inactive ingredients are butylated hydroxytoluene and magnesium stearate.

Afinitor is manufactured by Novartis International AG of Basel Switzerland.

Mainly used in treating advanced kidney cancer in certain patients.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating advanced kidney cancer in certain patients.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Cough
Diarrhea
Dry skin, pain, swelling or soreness of the mouth and tongue.
Fingernail or toenail changes.
Headache
Itching
Loss of appetite
Nausea
Nosebleed
Stomach pain or upset
Taste changes
Trouble sleeping
Vomiting
Tiredness or weakness
Weight loss

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with following conditions:
If allergic to any ingredient in Afinitor.
If patient suffers from severe liver problems.
During pregnancy and pre-pregnancy.
If there is diabetes or high blood sugar, high cholesterol, bone marrow problems, certain blood problems such as low white blood cell or platelet levels.

Drug Interactions:
Anticoagulants (warfarin)
Aprepitant, azole antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole), calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, verapamil), HIV protease inhibitors (ritonavir).
Barbiturates (phenobarbital), carbamazepine, dexamethasone, hydantoins (phenytoin), rifabutin, rifampicin, rifampin or St. John's wort.

06 Mar 2016	My Mom was on affinitor for a year. She has breast cancer and metastatic attacked her liver. This stuff for how expensive it is did not do anything. Massive loss of appetite! For a couple of months thing seem to be stable then the weight loss started. In less than 6 months she lost over 50 pounds. Doctor blames the cancer we blame the pills. We constantly told the doctor about appetite and weight loss and all was said all is fine. Till we had to push for a pet scan found tumors are growing rapidly in the liver and cancer now attacked the hip. She is gone from 155 pounds to 112. Affinitor costs $9000.00 a month and really did not do much help at all. 17 Jun 2015	After taking Afinitor for only two months my situation got worse. Headaches and dizziness were terrible. I had panic attacks and severe anxiety. 8 months after stopping this medication, I continue to have dizziness and headaches. Many days I feel depressed. This is the worst possible drug anyone could take.
