Warnings
The generic name of this medication is zolpidem and the various brand names are Ambien; Ambien CR; and Edluar.
The active ingredient of this medication is zolpidem tartrate and the inactive ingredients are colloidal silicon dioxide; hypromellose; and lactose monohydrate.
Ambien CR is manufactured by Sanofi-Vventis.
It is primarily used in the treatment of insomnia.
Common Uses:
This medication is used to treat insomnia.
Off Label Uses:
None noted currently.
Side Effects:
Aggression;
Anxiety;
Change in personality;
Decreased inhibitions; no fear of danger;
Depressed mood;
Feeling restless or agitated;
Hallucinations; confusion;
Risk-taking behavior;
Suicidal thoughts;
Unusual thoughts.
Cautions / Warnings:
Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to zolpidem, this medication or any of its ingredients;
Kidney disease like kidney stones;
Liver disease;
Lung disease like asthma; bronchitis; emphysema; or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);
Sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep);
Myasthenia gravis.
It is also not advisable in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.
Drug Interactions:
Chlorpromazine (Thorazine);
Itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral);
Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifater); or
Antidepressants such as imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), or sertraline (Zoloft).

I get to sleep quickly and sleep more soundly now. I'm an RN and am on my feet for 12-hour shifts, so sleeping soundly when I can is very important.

I took this pill just one time after my hysterectomy because I was having problems sleeping. One pill was all it took, but it took about two weeks to completely get it out of my system. I felt drowsy for weeks.
