The generic name of this medication is amiodarone hydrochloride and the brand name is Cordarone.

The active ingredient of this medication is amiodarone hydrochloride.

Amiodarone Hydrochloride is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis.

This medication is used in the treatment of life-threatening recurrent ventricular arrhythmias; recurrent ventricular fibrillation; and recurrent hemodynamically unstable ventricular tachycardia.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in the treatment of life-threatening recurrent ventricular arrhythmias; recurrent ventricular fibrillation; and recurrent hemodynamically unstable ventricular tachycardia.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Nausea and vomiting;
Malaise and fatigue, tremor/abnormal involuntary movements, lack of coordination, abnormal gait/ataxia, dizziness, paresthesias;
Constipation, anorexia;
Visual disturbances;
Abnormal liver-function tests;
Pulmonary inflammation or fibrosis.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
It is intended for use only in patients with life-threatening arrhythmias because its use is accompanied by substantial toxicity.

It is also not advisable in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Protease inhibitors;
Histamine H1 antagonists;
Cimetidine;
Antidepressants;
Trazodone.

13 Sep 2013	Amiodarone is a terrible drug with at least 420 known interactions. The drug is cheap and effective and the doctors have an almost religious belief in the drug. When I took this drug my Osteoarthritis pain increased significantly---almost to he point of being debilitating. 03 May 2011	I was previously on Amiodarone a few years ago. My heart went back into sinus rhythm and the Cardiologist discontinued the drug because of his concern of long-term side-effects. Unfortunately after several months the atrial fibrillation reocurred and a new Cardiologist has perscribed the drug, mainly to control my fast heart rate. It does appear to have done this but only time will tell. Meanwhile I am to have a full blood count, liver and thyroid function tests on May 12, 2011.
