The generic name of this medication is clomipramine and the brand name is Anafranil.

Anafranil is manufactured by Novartis.

The active ingredient of this medication is clomipramine hydrochloride. Inactive Ingredients include D&C Red No. 33, D&C Yellow No. 10, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Yellow No. 6, gelatin, magnesium stearate, methylparaben, propylparaben, starch (corn), and titanium dioxide.

It is primarily used in the treatment of a psychological disorder namely obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating a psychological disorder called obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Constipation;
Diarrhea;
Dizziness;
Drowsiness;
Dry mouth;
Headache;
Irritability;
Loss of appetite;
Nausea;
Nightmares;
Sweating;
Tiredness;
Upset stomach;
Vomiting;
Weakness;
Weight loss or gain.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients; or to similar medicines;
A history of taking furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days;
A history of recent heart attack.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; those that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Azole antifungals (eg, fluconazole), cimetidine, duloxetine, haloperidol, methylphenidate, mibefradil, phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine);
Astemizole, furazolidone, ketolide antibiotics (eg, telithromycin), macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), MAOIs (eg, phenelzine);
Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital) or phenytoin;
Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), carbamazepine, or sympathomimetics (eg, phenylephrine);
Clonidine, guanethidine, or guanfacine.
