The generic name of this medication is drospirenone/estradiol and brand name is Angeliq.

The active ingredients of this medication are drospirenone and estradiol.

It is mainly used in treating certain moderate-to-severe symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, dryness, itching and burning in or around the vagina).

Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating certain moderate-to-severe symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, dryness, itching and burning in or around the vagina).

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Back pain
Breast tenderness, pain or enlargement
Headache
Mild hair loss
Nausea
Nervousness
Stomach cramps, bloating or pain
Vaginal spotting or breakthrough bleeding
Vomiting
Weight changes

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with the following conditions:
If allergic to any ingredient in Angeliq.
During pregnancy and pre-pregnancy.
If there are kidney, liver or adrenal gland problems.
If there is a history of blood clots (in the lungs, legs, eyes).
If there has been recent (within the past year) bleeding in the brain, stroke, heart attack or other serious blood vessel problems.

Drug Interactions:
Troleandomycin.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (lisinopril), angiotensin receptor blockers (valsartan), heparin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (ibuprofen), potassium sparing diuretics (triamterene) or potassium supplements.

Azole antifungals (ketoconazole), HIV protease inhibitors (ritonavir) or macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin).

Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), carbamazepine, griseofulvin, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), penicillins (eg, amoxicillin), rifampin;

Corticosteroids (eg, prednisone);

Lamotrigine or thyroid hormones (eg, levothyroxine).

My quality of life was not good because of the symtoms of menapause. Hot flashes, night sweats every hour on the hour, sleep deprevation. Ater 2 weeks big difference with angeliq. I feel much better. I take 1/2 a pill every other day and it works well for me.
