The generic name of this medication is darbepoetin alfa and brand names are Aranesp, Aranesp Albumin Free, Aranesp SureClick.

The active ingredient of this medication is darbepoetin alfa.

Primarily used in the treatment of anemia (a lack of red blood cells in the body).

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat anemia (a lack of red blood cells in the body).

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Chest pain or heavy feeling, discomfort spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
Feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;
Sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
Sudden headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance; or
Pain or swelling in one or both lower extremities.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to darbepoetin alfa; epoetin alfa (Epogen or Procrit);
History of untreated or uncontrolled hypertension;
Cardiovascular conditions or congestive heart failure;
History of stroke or blood clots.

None noted thus far.
