The generic name of this medication are diclofenac and misoprostol and brand name is Arthrotec.

The active ingredients of this medication are diclofenac and misoprostol. Inactive ingredients include colloidal silicon dioxide; crospovidone; hydrogenated castor oil; hypromellose; lactose; magnesium stearate; methacrylic acid copolymer; microcrystalline cellulose; povidone (polyvidone) K-30; sodium hydroxide; starch (corn); talc; triethyl citrate.

Arthrotec is used to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in people that are at a high risk for developing stomach or intestinal ulcers.

Common Uses:

Arthrotec is used to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in people that are at a high risk for developing stomach or intestinal ulcers.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance;
Black, bloody, or tarry stools;
Coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
Swelling or rapid weight gain;
Urinary discomfort;
hypertension (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure);
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to diclofenac or Cataflam; misoprostol or Cytotec;
Allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs;
A history of cardiovascular condition; stroke or blood clot; congestive heart failure and hypertension;
Liver disease;
Renal disease;
Asthma;
Bleeding or blood clotting disorders.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women, women planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
A blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin);
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune);
Digoxin (Lanoxin);
Diuretics (water pills) such as furosemide (Lasix);
Insulin or diabetes medicine you take by mouth;
Lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid);
Methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall);
Phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton);
Steroids (prednisone and others).

I have osteoarthritis in both my knees and recently sprained my right knee. The arthrotec keeps the inflammation down but when I don't take it my knee swells up again. I know it works but I don't like taking it because it makes me dizzy and my fibromyalgia and nerve pain seem to flare worst when using it.
