The generic name of this medication is rosiglitazone and Brand Name is Avandia.

The active ingredients of this medication Rosiglitazone Maleate.

Mainly used to treat people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes, helps in control blood sugar levels by making the cells of the body more sensitive to the action of insulin.

Common Uses:

Mainly used to treat people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes, helps in control blood sugar levels by making the cells of the body more sensitive to the action of insulin.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Abdominal discomfort;
Blurred vision;
Chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the upper extremities or shoulder, sweating, general ill feeling;
Clay-colored stools;
Dark urine;
Increased thirst or hunger, urinary discomfort.
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
Loss of appetite;
Low fever;
Nausea;
Short of breath/mild exertion;
Swelling or rapid weight gain;

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for following conditions:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
State of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Congestive heart failure or heart disease;
History of cardiovascular disorders or stroke;
Liver disorder;
It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Isoniazid;
Diuretics (water pills);
Steroids (prednisone and others);
Phenothiazines (Compazine and others);
Thyroid medicine (Synthroid and others);
Birth control pills and other hormones;
Seizure medicines (Dilantin and others).
