The generic name of this medication are ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel and Brand Names are Alesse, Aviane, Enpresse, Lessina, Levlen, Levlite, Levora, Lutera, Lybrel, Nordette, Portia, Sronyx, Tri-Levlen, Triphasil, Trivora.

Active ingredients contained in Aviane include ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel.

Aviane is a combination hormone medication which is used to prevent pregnancy.

Common Uses:

Used as contraception to prevent pregnancy.

Off Label Uses:

It is also used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding and pain/discomfort associated with endometriosis.

Side Effects:
Sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
Sudden headache, confusion, pain behind the eyes, problems with vision, speech, or balance;
Chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
A change in the pattern or severity of migraine headaches;
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
Swelling in upper and lower extremities.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in:
Pregnant women;
Women with a history of stroke or blood clot, circulation problems (especially if caused due to diabetes);
Women who have allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Women with abnormal vaginal bleeding;
Women with heart valve disorder.

Drug Interactions:
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ascorbic acid (vitamin C);
Prednisolone (Orapred);
Theophylline (Respbid, Theo-Dur);
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, Gengraf);
St. John's wort;
An antibiotic;
Seizure medications;
A barbiturate sedative such as secobarbital (Seconal), or phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton).

26 Nov 2011	I have experienced many emotional problems since being on Aviane. My anxiety has increased, my moods are low, as well as my sex drive. 29 Jul 2011	I've only been on it for 2 months so far and they say you need at least 3 to adjust, but so far I am not impressed. I have acne regularly now, cramps a week before I'm due to start my period. Right now I am having a light period and I still have 1 week of pills left to take. I seem more irritable as well, but I don't know if that's the pills or early PMS. My asthma also seems to have gotten worse, but again this could be due to something else. I seem to have gained 7 pounds, too. 30 May 2011	Aviane was amazing from the day I started it until about 5 months into use. It prevented me from pregnancy, but suddenly I had a strange brown and heavy period (unusual for my light red ones). However, they have always come on time on the same day. Following this weird period was constipation, acne, mood swings, anxiety/panic, lightheadedness, and extreme fatigue, then I missed my next period. At first I thought it was pregnancy, but soon learned the pill was altering my hormones.
