The generic name of this medication is rasagiline and brand name is Azilect.

The active ingredient of this medication are rasagiline mesylate. The inactive ingredients of this medication include: mannitol, starch, pregelatinized starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, stearic acid and talc.

It is manufactured by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.

Azilect is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Hypertension (sudden and severe headache, confusion, blurred vision, chest pain, nausea, vomiting, seizure);
Sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), problems with speech or balance;
Unusual thoughts or behavior, confusion, extreme agitation;
Fever, sweating, muscle stiffness;
Feeling light-headed, fainting;
Blistering skin rash.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Liver disease or an adrenal gland tumor (also called pheochromocytoma).

It is also not recommneded in pregnant women; women planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro);
Theophylline (Theo-Dur, Respbid, Uniphyl); or
Antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil), amoxapine (Ascendin), citalopram (Celexa), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), imipramine (Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft).
