The generic name of this medication is butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine.
The various brand names are Esgic, Fioricet

The active ingredients of this medication arebutalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine.

This combination medication is used to treat tension headaches.

Common Uses:

This combination medication is used to treat tension headaches.

Off Label Uses:

Used in the treatment of migraine headaches.

Side Effects:
The common side effects are
Blurred vision;
Eyelid itching;
Eyelid swelling or crusting;
Irritation;
Itching;
Sensitivity to light may occur;
Severe dizziness;
Stinging/burning of the eyes for 1 to 2 minutes or temporary blurred vision;
Stinging;
Persist or worsen;
Trouble breathing;
Tearing.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to acetaminophen, caffeine, or butalbital; or to other barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital) or xanthine derivatives (e.g., theophylline);
Severe breathing problems (e.g., bronchopneumonia), a certain enzyme disorder (porphyria);
Renal disorders, liver disorders, personal or family history of regular use/abuse of drugs/alcohol, mental/mood disorders.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women who are planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Adenosine;
Anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin);
Beta agonists (e.g., albuterol);
Drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove this medication from your body (such as macrolide antibiotics including erythromycin;
Cimetidine;
Disulfiram;
Valproic acid;
Fluvoxamine;
MAO inhibitors including furazolidone;
Isocarboxazid;
Linezolid;
Moclobemide;
Phenelzine.
