Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Fast or pounding heartbeats;
Feeling light-headed, fainting;
Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet; or
penis erection that is painful or lasts 4 hours or longer.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for following conditions:
Who are allergic to doxazosin or similar medicines such as prazosin (Minipress), tamsulosin (Flomax), or terazosin (Hytrin);
Who have prostate cancer, heart disease (e.g., congestive heart failure, angina, heart attack in last 6 months), liver disease, kidney disease;
Who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant.

Drug Interactions:
Sildenafil (Viagra, Revatio);
Tadalafil (Cialis); or
Vardenafil (Levitra).

Although I informed the neurologist that I had been operated for a cataract in the left eye last November and wished to have the right eye operated asap, I was prescribed generic cardura 4 mg (possible risk of IFIS if I have another cataract removed) plus enalapril 40 mg (generic Vasotec) plus generic lipitor 40 mg (despite already having low cholesterol, triglycerids, etc.) My blood sugar rose to prediabetic levels in just a few weeks and I started having muscle pains and painful feet, so I gave up the lipitor. Blood sugar returned to below 100 in a couple of weeks so I can't blame cardura. After 6 months of suffering, I have halved the dosage of both cardura and enalapril and no longer have my bp falling to 85/50 . My breathing also seems to be improving.
