Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina (chest pain), and certain heart rhythm disorders.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Fast or slow heartbeats;
Feeling light-headed, fainting;
Fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
Feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;
Swelling, rapid weight gain.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for following conditions:
Who are allergic to diltiazem;
Who have certain heart conditions, especially "sick sinus syndrome" or "AV block" (unless you have a pacemaker);
Who have recently had a heart attack;
Who have kidney disease;
Who have liver disease;
Who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant.

Amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone);
Buspirone (BuSpar);
Carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol);
Cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB);
Cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune);
Digoxin (digitalis, Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps);
Lovastatin (Mevacor);
Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifater).

02 Aug 2011	This drug first caused anxiety. And now I realize that it is the cause of memory loss. I can't seem to remember anything. Now, I have severe cramps in my feet. What next? I want to change meds, but I don't do well on the beta blockers for my tachycardia and blood pressure. It causes bronchial spasms for me. 23 Jan 2010	I hate this stuff. I get out of breath if I walk up a flight of stairs or if I have to walk and talk at the same time. 10 Sep 2009	Both my husband and I started taking cartia and we have similiar side effects, we thought we were suffering from virus's one after the other but when I think back I was ok until the week I started taking them.
