I take fiber to control my weight. I also have taken laxatives, though, a form of bulimia, so I have to be careful with how much fiber I'll take and why. It depends on the particular day. I'll tell myself that it's safer, because it's not stimulating my bowels, but I don't want to get dehydrated and then constipated, as a result. I have absolutely horrible, just downright awful, smelly, putrid gas now, though. I know the pros outweigh the cons, but it's extremely uncomfortable, and have to be sure to keep Gas-X on hand.
