Flecainide Acetate Comments

Have had Atrial Fibrillation for two years, only just prescribed Flecainide and have found a vast improvement in the heartbeat, haven't had an AF episode since starting it, I know it is early days (30 days since starting it) but am amazed at the improvement in my health overall.

Poorly prepared Cardioversion having failed, I was refered to world leading heart rhythm specialist Prof. John Camm ( Hd of Cardiology, St. George's Hosp London SW17 ), where his team evaluated my problem, prior to treating me. Bisoprolol and Flecainide produced almost immediate change back to regular heart rhythm. I was precribed 100mg of Flecainide twice daily, but have myself redduced the dose. Blood pressure is OK for my age ( approx. 120 - 133 over 60 - 67, sometimes 70 - with heart beating at 54 0 60 'ish ) I would like the medication reduced if possible, but have first to see Prof. Camm again, for a final checkover. I will naturally continue blood thinning - Don't want a blood clot or stroke ! generally I feel good and active.

I have been taking Flecainide (50mg x 2 daily) for about a year after suffering ectopic beats, tachycardia and AF episodes. I have found it very useful in stabilising my condition to the extent I now sometimes take just 50mg per day or even skip days when feeling strong. I have lost 7lbs+ in weight and have tried to increase exercise (mostly walking, some yoga), plus I regularly take hawthorn extract, devil's claw, brewer's yeast powder, fish oil capsules, magnesium and sometimes courses of food state Vitamin C and Coenzyme Q10. I have increased fish consumption and have started eating some lamb perhaps once every six weeks, having read that carnitine can help with arrhythmias.

i am never sure if my medical problems might be caused by Flecainide or the fact that i am getting older but i dont sleep and I have gained weight also I have suffered from anxiety and depression since starting the Flecainide .

AFTER MY ABLATION PROCEDURE I WAS PRESCRIBED THIS DRUG. MY ABLATION PROCEDURE WAS 100% SUCESSFULL BUT WHILST ON THIS DRUG I HAVE EXPERIENCED LIGHT HEADEDNESS ON A REGULAR BASIS. PRIOR TO GOING ONTO THIS DRUG I DID NOT HAVE ANY LIGHTHEADINESS IT ALSO MAKES ME FEEL SICK BUT HAVE NEVER ACTUALLY BEING SICK.

Dear Davey, I read your comment with interest. It seems strange that you were prescribed Flecainide if the ablation was successful. Surely there would be no need for added drug therapy? But at least maybe you could suggest that you take a lower dose, and possibly less frequently? Best wishes!
