Description | Uses & Side Effects | Warnings

Ethinyl estradiol-norethindrone is the generic name of Junel Fe. The active ingredients of this medication are ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone acetate. The inactive ingredients of this medication are Acacia.

It is a prescription birth control pill used primarily to prevent pregnancy.

Common Uses:

Oral birth control pill used primarily to prevent pregnancy.

Off Label Uses:

Acne;
Heavy menstrual bleeding;
Irregular menses;
Painful menstrual periods
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Side Effects:
Acne;
Breakthrough bleeding or spotting between periods;
Breast lumps;
Breast tenderness;
Depression or other emotional changes;
Headaches;
Leg cramps;
Migraines;
Nausea (with or without vomiting);
Shortness of breath;
Signs of an allergic reaction such as wheezing, itching, etc;
Vision or speech changes;
Weakness or numbness in the extremities.

Cautions / Warnings:

Caution advised in people with:
Cardiovascular conditions;
Chest pain;
Depression;
Diabetes;
Gallbladder disease;
Hepatic conditions like as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors, liver cancer etc.
High cholesterol levels;
History of clotting disorder;
History of heart attack and/or stroke;
Hypertension;
Jaundice while pregnant or while on birth control pills;
Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
Not recommended in pregnant women and nursing mothers;
Not recommended in smokers and people above 35 years of age.

Drug Interactions:
Aminoglutethimide;
Antibiotics;
Barbiturate medications such as Amobarbital; Butalbital; Pentobarbital;
Cyclosporine;
Dexamethasone;
Modafinil;
Protease inhibitors such as Ritonavir; Atazanavir.

30 Apr 2012	Junel FE was way less effective for me than Microgestin FE, which I had taken previously. 28 Apr 2012	I took Microgestin FE before I had to switch healthcare plans, then I was given Junel FE. 22 Apr 2012	I switch from Loestrin to Junel because of cost. After six months of no libido, anxiety, irritability, headaches, weight gain, and periods that went from two days a month to FIFTEEN. I switched back to Loestrin. In two months most of the symptoms have subsided. My libido has increased slightly and my weight has gone down a little. I am back to my own happy go lucky self, no more witch as my husband likes to say!
