06 Jan 2012 I am a person who used meth (clean now for 20 years). Doctor told me my ability to self sooth had been hindered. Lexapro aids me in my self calming.

08 Jun 2011 I take a very high dose of Lexapro and have for years. Since I've had a mood disorder for 40 years, I've taken almost every antidepressant new and old. I am also a psychiatrist. I can truthfully say that Lexapro is one of the best antidepressants available. It has minimal side effects, and maximal benefits. For one thing, it doesn't "poop-out" like Zoloft, it doesn't make you tired like Prozac, it doesn't make you gain weight like the atypical antipsychotics, and it is very calming for anxiety if you stay on it and give it a chance. Those patients who experienced inital increases in anxiety responded well, when the starting dose was lowered a little. I have patients on Lexapro from 10mg to 80mg per day. It gains in efficacy as you go up in dose, higher than originally was thought. Along with Cymbalta, which is typically underdosed in patients at 60 mg, when the target dose should be 90mg per day, these are the two best antidepressants out there. I encourage anybody with depression to try these medications, and to take them in adequate doses and for a definitive length of time so their depressive symptoms remit. I am so grateful for the existence of these medications. They are lifesavers and way more tolerable than it looks like from the comments here. It's a shame that people only are moved to write in about negative events on these sites. Those who are doing well probably don't have time to waste complaining about their medications on line.

08 Apr 2011 I was prescribed this drug because I am in extreme grief over the loss of my beloved daughter. After only a few days of taking it my anxiety has become so severe that not even the .5 MG Xanax I take is affecting it. I've read that the first weeks on this drug can increase anxiety and I don't understand why this NP gave me this drug since this side effect seems to be widely known. If you suffer from anxiety, DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. I am not going to continue on it.
