GENERIC NAME: OXCARBAZEPINE - ORAL (ox-kar-BAY-zih-peen).
BRAND NAME(S): Trileptal.
Active Ingredient: oxcarbazepine.
Dose Form Descriptions: suspension; tablet. Route Description: oral. Oxcarbazepine Strength Descriptions: 150 mg; 300 mg;

Common Uses:

This medication is used to treat seizure disorders (epilepsy).

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Dizziness; drowsiness; fatigue; nausea; vomiting; rash; headache; trouble sleeping; acne; dry mouth or constipation.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not advisable in people who have allergic to Oxcarbazepine.
Not advisable in people who have kidney disease, decreased sodium blood levels (hyponatremia), recent seizures.

Drug Interactions:
Calcium channel blockers (e.g., verapamil, felodipine);
other seizure control medication (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, valproic acid).

User Comments about Oxcarbazepine

This drug has brought about positive changes. I take it around bed time and it helps me sleep. As long as I take it around the same time every night it keeps me mentally stable and I can operate throughout life effectively. I recommend taking it with food, as it can cause nausea and/or upset and queasy stomach. Also, do NOT take before operating heavy machinery, as it causes drowsiness.

multivitamin taken 6 hours away from ea. oxcarb dose. Dosage recently increased, now experiencing hallucinations, frequent nausea and severe exhaustion.
