24 May 2015 Oxycodone HCl is far and away the best drug available in the UK for chronic pain. The problem is the blatant lie on box and PIL that the duration of action is 12 hours. In my experience I begin to feel pain at around six and am in agony again by 6.5-7 hours after taking. My doctor refuses point blank to issue me recue medications which I have to obtain through other services than the NHS. Best are the short-acting but potent dipipanone with cyclizine tabs, dextromoramide tartrate (though my registered pharmacy in Netherlands now only dispenses 5mg tablets making it extremely expensive for dosages of 20-25mg; only Ireland, one of the most expensive countries out with the USA for medicine, currently dispenses the excellent 10mg strength) however there is a drug which beats all but has no licence for human consumption out with the USA and that is oxymorphone hydrochloride (specifically Endo Opana 10 and 5mg, a 15mg dosage being approx equivalent to 30mg dipipanone or 20-25mg dextromoramide). Another drug missing from the UK portfolio which would help is high dosage IR hydromorphone (average duration of action 3 hours, available in 2, 4 and 8mg strengths whereas in the UK we require four or five x 2.6mg Palladone 2.6mg capsules to make up an effective dosage. Immediate release OXYNORM original brand are also excellent analgesics - but I find a change from the major MR medication is better. Taking 2 x 20mg capsules four times daily is roughly equal to THREE 80mg OxyContin (now banned in the USA and replaced by the plastinated 'abuse proof' 'OP' tablets which I have tried and found to be absolute garbage, feeling around half the strength of regular OC and giving dreadful GI side effects as well. No wonder so many US patients get their OxyContin sent from Europe now!) On the whole, as long as the OxyContin is of the original formulation and you have a doctor willing to prescribe 'rescue' medications at the proper dosage levels, I would say that 40/80/120mg original brand (there are no generic MR oxycodones worth touching, believe me!) combined with up to three doses of the drugs named above give perhaps the finest analgesia you can get. Now if only there were a way I could obtain, here in the UK, for a change, the Global Pharma 40mg and 20mg ER Oxymorphone and the Endo 'E612/613' IR Opana brand, I would have access to the very best. Does anybody have any idea how one goes about obtaining Us-only medicines in the UK? I had a friend once (RIP) who used to send me DILAUDID 4 and 8mg, hydrocodone bitartrate, and the superb, but ONLY acceptable quality USA-made alprazolam, Greenstone G3721 1mg and 3722 2mg, all other American makes being of such poor quality I fear for the poor people there with no access to a decent alprazolam, such an important medication, as well as Watson DAN5513 carisoprodol, a drug now banned almost worldwide and which I now must buy at dreadfully high cost from Argentina (Finadiet Listafkex, best brand on the market) or poor quality Indian brands, as my lumbar muscular pain is not receptive to opioid treatments at all.) I rate Oxycodone hydrochloride as a decent NINE out of ten. Only dextromoramide, dipipanone and oxymorphone would be any higher, as long as the pills have not been subjected to the same 'plastination' as the pseudo-OxyContin and Opana ER now sold in the USA, making them almost useless.

13 Oct 2008 I was taking high doses of hydroCodone with tylenol, so this drug is far better less disruptive, and less addictive both in taking it and in stopping it.

26 May 2015 Hydrocodone (dihydrocodeineone) bitartrate must be the most overpriced mild opioid on the market - now, since the withdrawal of the antitussive DICODID in 2008 (hydrocodone has NEVER been approved as an analgesic in any country except the USA) it is confined to the USA, which, according to WHO, consumed 100% of the world supply in 2014. I concede that, synergistically combined with acetaminophen (paracetamol) it is around four times the strength of dihydrocodeine, but the amount of the latter that U.S.-based companies put into the tablets make them potentially dangerous and even fatal, as people tend to overlook the amount of paracetamol it takes to cause severe liver damage especially when taking over a long period. In fact for every 15mg hydrocodone there should not be any more than 60mg acetaminophen added. It was approved as an antitussive in Europe, and never combined with that dreadfully hepatotoxic paracetamol, which should really be a strictly controlled substance, being that it is responsible for more deaths from drug overdose than all other drugs put together. Just thank the authorities for getting rid of co-proxamol (Distalgesic, Darvon etc), a combo of paracetamol and dextropropoxyphene, the two MOST hepatotoxic drugs you could possibly combine and the major cause of early death in especially females between 12 and 18 years of age - the old 'cry for help' overdose. Just because it can be bought at corner shops does not make it safe! As little as over 3g to 4g in a single dosage can cause permanent damage and ten 500mg tablets can easily cause death if the patient is not caught within the first four to six hours after ingestion. Hydrocodone itself is a superb antitussive but for analgesia you are far better of with the much cheaper dihydrocodeine tartrate using 40mg for every 10mg hydrocodone you would use, which poses no such dangers. Either that or only ever take hydrocodone when PURE and not adulterated with paracetamol. The analgesia is slightly reduced, but only to the extent of around 10%. Better than ending up dead just because your pain needs 40mg and all available are hydro/apap combo 5/650mg tablets! JUST BE AWARE. AND THE FEWER PEOPLE WHO BUY THE COMBINATION DRUG, THE BETTER, IT MIGHT SHOW THE BIG PHARMA COMPANIES THAT THEY ARE PLAYING WITH LIVES.
