Common Uses:

Preterax is a combination of an ACE inhibitor and a chlorosulfamoyl diuretic, leads to additive synergy of the antihypertensive effects of the two constituents. Its pharmacological properties are derived from those of each of the components taken separately, in addition to those due to the additive synergistic action of the two constituents, when combined, on vascular endothelium, arteriolocapillary microcirculation, and the target organs of hypertension.

Off Label Uses:

Some of the off label uses of Preterax include: preventing hypertension related damages in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Side Effects:
Some of the common side effects while taking Preterax include: dizziness, mood swings, hypotension, allergic rashes, gastrointestinal disorders, dry cough, risk of dehydration in elderly patients and in patients suffering from heart failure, asthenia, cramps and sleep disturbances.

Cautions / Warnings:

Cautions and warnings that need to be noted while taking Preterax include the following: disorders of electrolyte balance, liver impairment, risk of neutropenia, hemodialysis, and immunosuppressed patients. The patient has to follow doctors’ advice in cases of diabetes mellitus, gout, and hypotension.

Drug Interactions:
Drug interactions for Preterax include: potassium sparing diuretics, potassium, non antiarrhythmatic drugs, anesthetic drugs, lithium, cyclostatic drugs and immunosuppressive agents.

25 Jun 2011	Preterax helped to regualrize my high blood pressure, but I have no intention of stayin on it, because I got too many of the side effects, especially the horrble headaches in the temples and the gas and stomach pains. 21 Nov 2010	Three medical sources having declared for over a year that I had too high blood pressure (when measured in clinic or cabinent: 18) I was finally persuaded to take preterax by my GP and return three weeks later to see if the pressure had gone down - which it seemingly had. But I am not sure 1. why or if high blood pressure constitutes a lethal risk and 2. whether simply surpressing the symptom gets to the eventual root causes of high blood pressure (and thus could lull me into not taking further steps in the "right" direction.
