Reginald Kenneth Dwight (1947-), otherwise known as Sir Elton Hercules John, or simply Elton John, English singer-songwriter and pianist. John has had one of the most successful musical careers of all time, selling over 200 million records, and releasing seven consecutive number one albums. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and was knighted in 1988.
Elton John has battled addictions with alcohol and cocaine, and suffered a drug overdose in 1975. He entered a drug rehabilitation program in 1990. John also admitted that he was bulimic in 2002. When asked by Larry King, he said that he and his close friend Princess Diana of Wales both suffered from the condition. John said that it was difficult to find a treatment program for both drug addiction and buli
mia. But, he said, "I did what I was told… I went to lots of meetings, met new friends, did what my sponsor told me to do, kept in touch on a daily basis. I started to enjoy things I had never done before.” He continues, "Since I've been … I am so much more confident, so much easier to be around. It is still hard for me to say no, but I have to learn."
In 2009, it was rumored that Elton John had swine flu (Influenza A). He was forced to cancel several appearances and shows, and was ordered to rest after suffering flu-like symptoms and extreme fatigue. After brief hospitalization, John’s spokesman said he was doing fine and would be returning to work soon.
