About Twak
Twak (Cinnamomum Cassia) is the Sanskrit name used extensively in Ayurvedic medicine. It is known as Cassia in the West or Cinnamon in its common name. It promotes healthy glucose metabolism. Cinnamon has extremely high anti-oxidant activity, and as an essential oil it functions as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent. It is also a rich source of manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium. As a result, it has been used as a form of alternative treatment and medicinal uses include: Lowering blood sugar levels and treating Type 2 Diabetes; Decreasing cholesterol; Helping in the process of digestion; Prevention and treatment of diarrhea; Treatment of allergies and common cold; Providing relief from arthritis pain; Boosting memory and cognitive function; Treatment of gingivitis and toothache; Foul breath; Treating headaches and migraines. It contains a volatile oil that consits of cinnamaldehyde and other cinnamate derivatives in addition to certain phenolic compounds (condensed tannins), flavonoid derivatives (proanthocyanidins, oligomers or cinnamtannins), mucilage, calcium oxalate, resins, sugars, and coumarins. The bark contains procyanidins, phenylpropanoids and mucilage; all of which have medicinal benefits.
