Ibuprofen is the generic name and active ingredient of this medication. It is available under various brand names like, Advil, Genpril, Ibu, Midol, Motrin, and Nuprin.

It belongs to a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It functions by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

It is primarily used reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by various conditions like arthritis; back pain; headache; menstrual cramps; minor injury; and toothache; etc.

Common Uses:

This medication is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by various conditions like, arthritis; back pain; menstrual cramps; minor injuries; and toothache etc.

Off Label Uses:

Used in the treament of:
Fibromyalgia symptoms;
Gout symptoms;
Migraines;
Pain or inflammation caused by various other conditions;
Symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus.

Side Effects:
Bloating;
Indigestion;
Nausea;
Nervousness;
Stomach cramps;
Swelling;
Vomiting.

Cautions / Warnings:

Contraindicated in:
Pregnant women and nursing mothers;
People who drink alcohol frequently;
People with asthma; heart disease; liver disease or liver failure;
People that are allergic to medicines, including aspirin or any other NSAID pain medications.

Drug Interactions:
ACE inhibitors;
Aspirin;
Corticosteroids;
Lithium;
Methotrexate;
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
Warfarin.
