Since stopping the medication Ive had horrendous side effects which have meant I've spent the last 3 days in bed and I'm still no better. I'm wondering how long these side effects will last. I stopped meds on Monday and have woken up I'll again today. I have sever hot and cold sweats, headache, muscle ache, nausea, general feeling of being unwell like I'm coming down with flu. Will I feel like this for much longer? It's debilitating.

I've been on Dilantin for about 15 years now. I don't like the side effects at all, especially the memory problems, since they seem to get worse. Sometimes I forget a word in the middle of my sentence, I then getflustered and forget my entire thought. I'm also constantly tired and even though I am only 44 years old, I sometimes feel like my 81 year old mother. The doctor says that my blood pressure is good, but sometimes I feel tensed and stresses, weak, tired, out of balance, and chest pain mostly at night.. I also have an increase hearthbeat. I must say that the medication works, but too many side effects. So at the end of the day, what is the point of having such a medication which increases and decreases your well-being at the same time?

I have used Topamax for almost four years and I am very satisfied with the way that it helped my headaches (both daily and migraines). However, it has caused severe memory and concentration problems. I don't feel as if I can join in intellectual discussions anymore (I went to Harvard) and I am very forgetful. I'm now switching to Lamictal in the hopes that I'll get my brain back. This is a great drug if you don't lose your mind. I would for sure give it a try.
