Have been taking Topamax for about 5 years for migraines. At one point I was up to 300 mg/day but am now down to 200 mg/day. This medication has been challenging at times. I have experienced all the typical side effects to varying degrees. The most challenging side effect for me is the speech aphasia that I experience. I started on 5 grams two weeks ago and I could tell it was working. However, late in the day I could feel it wearing off. When I would take the 5 grams in the morning it helped with my libido and firmness but by the next morning it would wear off. My doctor increased the dose to 10 grams a day and I just started that. Within about w two hours, I had all the diigestion-related symptoms of the flu (even though I do not and did not have the flu). Without getting too graphic, let me just say that my system emptied itself completely via both ends within about 1 half-hour. Been taking Lyrica for GAD and tremors in my hands. It's the only medication that works for me. My anxiety is gone, and the tremors in my hands are gone with Lyrica. An unexpected side effect is I was able to quit smoking within four days of taking it. And I was a pack and a half a day smoker. It also relieves my severe back pain due to arthritis way better than anti-inflamatories do.
