I started taking Chantix two weeks ago, the first week was fine, while I was smoking, when I quit smoking on the second week I thought that I might have an immunity to the meds because I was climbing the walls... like you do when you are having a nicotine fit, by the end of the second week I developed a skin rash with lesions varying in size from a pin point to a dime size. I've decided that the health risks of taking this medication might out weigh the health risks from smoking. Think I wi... View full comment

Positives: Works fast, not a pain killer... so there are no groggy side effects. Used for several years without any problems. Negatives: Quite expensive even with insurance. No generic equivalent available.

Went to the doctor after about two years of being in constant bummed-out moods. He diagnosed me with dysthymia (mild, chronic depressed state), and prescribed me with Celexa. After about a year, my moods are much improved and normalized, I can concentrate on tasks better, and I don't dwell on negative experiences. The main issue with the medication is that I think it makes me a bit more tired, though I have always required a lot of sleep.

I too am hyperthyroid. I was prescribed carbimazole and had an allergic reaction with a skin rash which erupted within days. I then was prescribed PTU, propylithouacil which I initially took at a very high dosage, namely 12 tablets/day and after several weeks lost my taste completely and had bad headaches. My consultant reduced the dosage to two/day after 2 months as I had gone underactive. I gradually regained my taste but then developed pains in my arms so bad I couldn't sleep on my sides... After about a year of use, I've noticed that my hair loss has pretty much stopped (at forehead). Unfortunately, nothing has really regrown. The crown of my head is fine at this point, but my hairline is the trouble area.
