The generic names of this medication are aspirin and dipyridamole. Brand name is Aggrenox.

Aggrenox is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim.

The active ingredients of this medication are aspirin and dipyridamole and inactive ingredients are acacia and aluminum.

Aggrenox is used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have had blood clots or a "mini-stroke" (also called a transient ischemic attack or TIA).

Common Uses:

This medication is used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have had blood clots or a "mini-stroke" (also called a transient ischemic attack or TIA).

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
Weakness or fainting.
Black, bloody or tarry stools.
Coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
Severe nausea, vomiting or stomach pain.
Fever lasting longer than 3 days.
Swelling or pain lasting longer than 10 days.
Hearing problems, ringing in the ears.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in patients with the following conditions:
During pregnancy.
If patient suffers from symptoms of bleeding in the stomach or intestines.
If there is a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia.
If there is liver disease, kidney disease and/or low blood pressure.
If patient suffers from asthma.

Drug Interactions:
Acetazolamide (Diamox)
Methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall)
Oral diabetic medications.
Gout medications such as probenecid (Benemid) or sulfinpyrazone (Anturane).
An ACE inhibitor such as benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace) and others.
Alzheimer medications such as donepezil (Aricept), galantamine (Reminyl) or rivastigmine (Exelon).
