I suffer from horrible headaches. I also get tension headaches and migraines. I take preventative medication (topamax) for my migraines but sometimes I still get one here and there. When I do get a bad migraine I usually take maxalt, but when it is not available to me I stick to what work has always worked in the past and that is ibuprofen. For the typical bad headache or tension headache, 600 or 800 mg of Ibuprofen just knocks the headache right out so I do not have to repeat the dose later... View full comment

Toprol XL is the only medicine that worked so effectively for me. Not only it lowered my blood pressure, but it also normalized my heart rate, which used to be irregular before I started taking it (and, as a result, the palpitations are gone as well).

I have palpations --was on a beta blocker toprol xl for 6years had meny problems on it.. put on verapamil 260mg did ok for a while, but get winded out of breath doing anything! my vision is blurred and eyes dry at night ? allergic or what ? doctor doesnt know? im tired all the time got no get up and go anymore - depressed alot ! just feel bad, not normal anymore - forgot what that is ? noticed hair thinning everywhere and some return of palps while on this medication - though now they ar... Positives: Works fast, not a pain killer... so there are no groggy side effects. Used for several years without any problems. Negatives: Quite expensive even with insurance. No generic equivalent available.

Moderately effective pain relief, but wasn't strong enough for my specific case. I was in recovery from an internal-external hemorrhoidectomy, which is extremely painful. My surgeon recommended Oxycontin or Percocet, but my physician, knowing my history, advised against prescribing a more addictive drug, knowing my potential for dependency.
