For me, kava works wonders for my sometimes debilitating anxiety. Non-addictive, and does not cloud my thinking. However, I usually take more than whatever the recommended dose on the bottle says. No side effects, other than if you take "too much", sometimes you can feel a little tired the next day, and/or not sleep as well in the morning. I'm aware that the drug should not be taken with alcohol, but as I drink regularly I figured I could predict the results. I planned on just a more intensified reaction to alcohol or maybe a feeling of light headed-ness. Turns out, it causes (to me at least) blackouts and erratic behavior after only two or three drinks. Unfortunately, I have only recently started to recearch this medication and it's side effects. At first I thought effxor xr was the best thing that ever happened to me, but after taking it for 2 plus years I wish it was never prescribed to me. Everyone is different, I know, but so many people, me included, experience terrible side effects from missing ONE dose. My doctor told me that I am experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Pain controlled.....lowered prescription, because I had trouble sleeping. I was taking 4-6 100mg a day for pain after extensive dental work. Lowered to 2 100mg after 3 days for a total of 8 days.

It gives me terrible cramps starting in my side and running all the way up my side and through my arms. I am unable to take it and had to switch to a different medicine because the side effects were too bad.

I was really against taking this drug to begin with. I've tried to keep a positive HOPE that this would help me. I have worse symptoms and can't differentiate what is symptomatic of the disease or the drug. The endocrine system is so complex and effects many other body systems.
