I too am hyperthyroid. I was prescribed carbimazole and had an allergic reaction with a skin rash which erupted within days. I then was prescribed PTU, propylithouacil which I initially took at a very high dosage, namely 12 tablets/day and after several weeks lost my taste completely and had bad headaches. My consultant reduced the dosage to two/day after 2 months as I had gone underactive. I gradually regained my taste but then developed pains in my arms so bad I couldn't sleep on my sides... I thought I was dying. I have an appointment with a nuerologist becase my doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. It got so bad that I couldn't hold a cup or write because I had such bad tremors. Anxiety disrupted my life completely. First day I have gone with out it and the first day I have not had tremors....

I think mentally it was discouraging to know that I had to take this because it is a private area. The medicine itself worked but I just never wanted to talk to anyone about it.
