I too am hyperthyroid. I was prescribed carbimazole and had an allergic reaction with a skin rash which erupted within days. I then was prescribed PTU, propylithouacil which I initially took at a very high dosage, namely 12 tablets/day and after several weeks lost my taste completely and had bad headaches. My consultant reduced the dosage to two/day after 2 months as I had gone underactive. I gradually regained my taste but then developed pains in my arms so bad I couldn't sleep on my sides... I started taking Metformin when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I started at a lower dosage twice daily and moved up to 850mg 3 years later and I haven't really had any problems with my blood sugar since then. Metformin keeps my blood sugar very stable and I am very happy with it.

My libido seems to be lower with Armour thyroid. I read a study that showed that thyroid meds increase SHBG which then lowers free testosterone. My SHBG has been its lowest while taking Armour thyroid. Seems like more than just a coincidence.
