I was prescribed dexamethasone for severe inflammation in my tonsils when I had mononucleosis. I was unable to swallow and had difficulty breathing due to my enlarged tonsils, but the dexamethosone improved the swelling significantly very quickly. It made me very hungry, but I had also lost a lot of weight from my illness, so this side effect was not bad for me. Drug was helpful in the short-term (6 months); decided to quit with a quick 6-week taper 3 years ago because of weight gain, loss of motivation for virtually any activity, and overwhelming feeling of physical malaise; experienced truly horrific withdrawal symptoms (see www.paxilprogress.org for others' experiences) had to go back on drug; have now completed 1st year in what will be a 2-year taper off this drug. Stay far away from this drug; there are much better options out there for you.
