Description | Uses & Side Effects | Warnings

The generic names of Benzaclin is clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide, which are also the active ingredients of Benzaclin. It is used primarily in the treatment of acne vulgaris. It is a topical product meant for external use only. Benzoyl peroxide functions by decreasing the inflammation caused by acne and also discards the oily residue found in people suffering from acne vulgaris. Clindamycin functions like an antibiotic and combats the bacteria, decreasing the swelling of the pimples.

The inactive ingredients of Benzaclin are carbomer, sodium hydroxide, dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate and water.

It is also used in the treatment of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.

It is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Off Label Uses:

None recorded thus far.

Side Effects:
The most frequently experienced side effects associated with the use of Benzaclin are as follows:
Allergic reaction
Skin drying and peeling
Skin rashes or burning sensations in skin areas
Increased sensitivity of the skin to sun exposure
Mild or moderate stinging
Diarrhea.

Cautions / Warnings:

It is for external use only.
Contact with eyes to be avoided as also inside the nose, mouth and all mucous membranes, as this can cause irritation.
Post application direct exposure to sunlight to be avoided.
Any allergic or advrese reactions to be reported.
Not recommended during pregnancy and in nursing mothers.
Not recommended in children below 12 years' of age.
Using cosmetics containing strong chemicals should be avoided while on Benzaclin.

Atracurium.
Cisatracurium.
Clindamycin and tretinoin topical.
Dapsone topical.
Doxacurium.
Fluocinolone, hydroquinone, tretinoin topical.
Isotretinoin.
Mequinol and tretinoin topical.

18 Oct 2011	Benzaclin was prescribed to me by a Dermatologist; I was on a cycle of Benzaclin every morning and Retin-A at night. Aside from the few adverse effects (dry skin, staining of clothes) listed above, there were no problems side effects with taking Benzaclin. I don't think it is the best acne medication out there, however. At least for me, the improvement was mild, and it did not do as good of a job as I would have hoped. 08 Jul 2010	When I started taking Benzaclin, I didn't have any insurance coverage so I paid over 150 dollars for a tube of it. 26 May 2010	So far, it's been a pretty effective acne medication gel. I use it as needed-whenever I get pimples. It helps dry up acne spots and clears the skin pretty quickly.
