Anemia treatment

Description
Anemia is a condition that results when the body does not produce an efficient amount of red blood cells so the bodily organs are not getting enough oxygen.
Causes
Anemia can be caused by blood loss, destruction of red blood cells, a deduction in red blood cell production, a diet lacking in iron, and loss of blood through menstruation.
Prevention
A well-balanced diet can help prevent iron-deficiency anemia in some cases, but some forms of anemia are hereditary- genetic defects can affect the production of hemoglobin and cause a higher risk of anemia.
Common Symptoms
Fatigue, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, headaches, shortness of breath.
Rare Symptoms
Problems thinking, constipation, tingling sensations.
Traditional Treatment
Well-balanced diet, iron supplements, blood transfusion.
Alternative Treatment
Cow's-milk consumption, iron-fortified cereal and formula, herbal treatments and vitamins, surgery for spleen removal.
