I too am hyperthyroid. I was prescribed carbimazole and had an allergic reaction with a skin rash which erupted within days. I then was prescribed PTU, propylithouacil which I initially took at a very high dosage, namely 12 tablets/day and after several weeks lost my taste completely and had bad headaches. My consultant reduced the dosage to two/day after 2 months as I had gone underactive. I gradually regained my taste but then developed pains in my arms so bad I couldn't sleep on my sides... Very pleased with the med. I fought depression for many years and took Prozac which help considerably. I began to develop dysphoria. I found no enjoyment from anything so weekends and nights were very boring and I started drinking to kill the boredom. My doctor started me on Aplenzin.
