Description | Uses & Side Effects | Warnings

The generic name of this medication is azelastine nasal and brand names are Astelin, Astepro.

The active ingredient of this medication is azelastine. Inactive ingredients include benzalkonium chloride; edetate disodium; hypromellose; citric acid; dibasic sodium phosphate; sodium chloride; and purified water.

Astelin prevents sneezing, itching, runny nose, nasal congestion and other symptoms associated with allergies.

Common Uses:

Astelin prevents sneezing, itching/runny nose, nasal congestion and other symptoms associated with allergies.

Off Label Uses:

None noted currently.

Side Effects:
A bitter taste in your mouth;
Headache;
Drowsiness or dizziness;
Dry mouth, sore throat;
Burning in the nostrils;
Weight gain;
Nausea;
Nosebleed;
Cough, sneezing, runny nose, cold symptoms; or
redness in the eye.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients;
Renal disorders;
Liver disorders.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women planning on becoming pregnant; and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Cold or allergy medicine;
Narcotic pain medicine;
Sleeping pills;
Muscle relaxants and medicine for seizures;
Depression or anxiety;
Cimetidine (Tagamet).
