I was 17 weeks pregnant when I had a shingles outbreak. This was my second instance of a shingles outbreak, but first time using Valtrex. The last time I had a shingles outbreak was at age 7 (20+ years ago). I was in pain and worried about my pregnancy. Horrible joint pain, to the point I could not stand or walk. Took my nephrologist to discover it was the med and immediately took me off of this. They say that the damage should not be permanent, but it's been 6 weeks and my hip is still very painful, although improved. VERY frustrating!!!

It was a well prescribed drug for my scoliosis surgery, but the experience would have been much better with a higher dosage such as 7.5/10.0 mgs considering the pain involved in such a surgery.
