Dave Prowse

Dave Prowse (1935-), English bodybuilder and actor, best known for his role as Darth Vader in the Star Wars films. In his younger years, Prowse stood at a staggering 6’7” and weighed 265 lbs.

Prowse was only used as the physical form of Darth Vader; his voice was dubbed over. In a Star Wars documentary in 2004, Carrie Fischer (Princess Leia) explained that Prowse had an un-intimidating West Country accent, and the cast had nicknamed him “Darth Farmer."

In the UK, Prowse received an MBE for a campaign in which he played the Green Cross Code Man, a superhero that promoted road safety.
