Causes

Although the root cause of Fibromyalgia is still unkown, physicians believe it to be caused by a series of factors working in synthesis. Prevention

Currently there are no specific means for the prevention of Fibromyalgia due to the unknown cause of the disorder. However, since the disorder is linked with sleep disturbances, exercise and getting regular sleep can be considered as preventive measures.

Common Symptoms

Common symptoms for Fibromyalgia include, but are not limited to, pain, fatigue, depression, stiffness, sleep disturbances short term memory, loss irritable bowel syndrome, restless leg syndrome, osteoarthritis, headaches, jaw pain, multiple sensitivies, food allergies, repulsion towards certain odors, allergies towards certain medications, and lack of concentration.

Rare Symptoms

Rare symptoms for Fibromyalgia include sensitivity to odors, loud noises, and bright lights, non-cardiac chest pain, acid reflux, dizziness, irregular heart beat palpitations, shortness of breath, nasal congestion, painful periods, nasal congestion, excessive sweating, muscle weakness, numbness, difficulty focusing eyes, pms, and dry or burning eyes and mouth.

Traditional Treatment

Conventional treatments for Fibromyalgia are typically medications such as, antidepressants, and analgesics, or counseling therapy, along with some changes in lifestyle.

Alternative Treatment

Alternative treatments include acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, tai chi, osteopathic manipulation, biofeedback, and aerobics. Other alternative options are B vitamin complex, omega 3 fatty acids, anti-oxidants, melatonin, valerian, acetyl L-carnitine, SAMe, and 5-HTP.
