Description
Warts are rough growths on the skin that usually appear on the hands, knees, elbows and feet. There are several types of common warts; (1) Plantar warts are found on the bottom of foot. Causes
Warts are caused by a virus more specifically HPV (human papilloma virus). Warts can also be brought upon by stress. Prevention
It is advised to avoid contact with warts (your own and others), keep feet and hands dry and clean, do not go barefoot in public areas, do not pick at warts and do not use the same emery board or pumice stone on your warts for other areas of the body.
Common Symptoms
Symptoms of Plantar warts include small grainy bumps on the soles of feet, grey-brown bumps with central black spot(s) and pain and tenderness when walking. Rare Symptoms
In extreme cases warts can continue growing and cause pain and disfigurement.
Traditional Treatment
Plantar warts do not require treatment, only if they are painful. Your doctor may use cryotherapy (freezing), cantharidin, surgery, immunotherapy, Imiquimod (Aldara), or Bleomycin (Blenoxane). Alternative Treatment
Duct tape has been used on plantar warts. A study done in 2002 described how patients would cover their warts with duct tape for six days, soak in water, rub with a emery board or pumice stone and repeated for up to two months. Castor oil is another alternative remedy.

Research and Development
There is not a lot of potential treatment or research when it comes to warts. This is because warts are caused by HPV and researchers are still trying to tackle this virus. For now the best thing to do is to stick with conventional treatments.
