Bottle says take 1 hour before eating. Pharmacist said take with food. I took it with food. Big mistake, terrible heartburn, bloating, diarrhea. Not sure I can tolerate this medicine? Also have sores in my mouth. I'm going to try rhe 1 hour before food today & see if that helps? May be sick all day but really need this to clear up my uti!

I needed to change antibiotics while I was on Ampicilin, taking with or without food did not help my GI symptoms and they were difficult to swallow with an after taste

Ampicillin was a very fast acting penicillin when I took it for pneumonia. I initially took amoxicillin because it was cheaper but the sickness regressed two weaks after finishing amoxicillin. Once to took ampicillin the pneumonia didn't return, however the side effects were more harsh. I had oral thrush, and my urine smelled like the medicine. Otherwise, ampicillin is a fantastic medication for pneumonia to say the least.

after being on accutane and many many other medications for acne, ampicillin has kept my acne under control for the most part. a negative that i have noticed that i believe to be related to it is that i occassionally have diarrhea.
