The active ingredient of this medication is aripiprazole.

It is manufactured by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co.

Mainly used in treating agitation caused by schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in treating agitation caused by schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Off Label Uses:

Side Effects:
Dizziness;
Drowsiness;
Headache;
Nausea;
Vomiting.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended for following conditions:
Who are allergic to any ingredient in Aripiprazole;
Who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant;
who have a history of cardiovascular conditions (eg, heart failure, irregular heartbeat, recent heart attack);
Who have a history of seizures, dementia, Alzheimer disease, depression or other mental/mood disorders;
Who are dehydrated.

Drug Interactions:
Anticholinergics (eg, benztropine, methscopolamine);
Benzodiazepines (eg, lorazepam), imidazole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), quinidine, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine), or voriconazole;
Carbamazepine, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), or rifampin;
Alpha-blockers (eg, terazosin).

About Aripiprazole

Aripiprazole (produced by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. and sold as Abilify) is the sixth atypical antipsychotic medications to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of schizophrenia. It has also recently received FDA approval for the treatment of acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Aripiprazole was approved by the FDA in November in 2002 and was developed by the Otsuka pharmaceutical company based in Japan, although in the U.S. it is jointly marketed by Otsuka USA Pharmaceutical and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
