The generic name of this medication is salsalate and the brand name is Disalcid.

The active ingredient of this medication is salsalate representative.

This medication is used to provide relief from pain and discomfort from conditions such as swelling and joint stiffness caused due to arthritis. This medication is known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID.

Common Uses:

This medication is used provide relief pain and discomfort from conditions such as swelling and joint stiffness caused due to arthritis. This medication is known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID.

Off Label Uses:

None noted thus far.

Side Effects:
Abdominal discomfort;
Dizziness or nausea;
Heartburn;
Swelling of the lower extremities;
Unexplained weight gain;
Hearing disorders.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to it; to aspirin; or any other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib);
Aspirin-sensitive asthma (a history of worsening of breathing with runny/stuffy nose after taking aspirin or any other NSAIDs);
Severe renal disease;
Liver disease;
Poorly managed diabetes;
Stomach/intestine/esophagus problems (e.g., bleeding, ulcers, recurring heartburn).

Drug Interactions:
Anti-platelet drugs (e.g., cilostazol, clopidogrel);
"Blood thinners" (e.g., enoxaparin, heparin, warfarin);
Corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone);
Certain diabetes drugs (e.g., sulfonylureas such as glyburide);
Certain drugs for seizures (phenytoin, valproic acid);
Corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone);
Cyclosporinel;
Drugs for gout (e.g., probenecid, sulfinpyrazone);
Drugs for hypertension (including ACE inhibitors such as captopril, angiotensin II receptor antagonists such as losartan, and beta blockers such as metoprolol);
Drugs that affect the acidity of urine (e.g., ammonium chloride, acetazolamide).
