The generic name of this medication are carbidopa and levodopa and brand names are Atamet, Parcopa, Sinemet, Sinemet CR.

The active ingredients of this medication are carbidopa and levodopa.

Mainly used to treat various symptoms of Parkinson's disease, like muscle stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control.

Common Uses:

This medication used to treat various symptoms of Parkinson's disease like muscle stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control.

Off Label Uses:

Used in the treatment of providing relief from symptoms caused by carbon monoxide poisoning or manganese intoxication.

Side Effects:
Restless muscle movements in the eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck;
Worsening of tremors (uncontrolled shaking);
High fever, stiff muscles, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, rapid breathing, feeling like you might pass out;
Seizure (convulsions);
Urinary disorder;
Severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
Uneven heart rate or fluttering in the chest;
Confusion, hallucinations, anxiety, agitation, depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people who:
Are allergic to carbidopa (Lodosyn) or levodopa (Larodopa);
Have narrow-angle glaucoma; a history of malignant melanoma;
Suffer from cardiovascular conditions, hypertension, coronary artery disease, a heart rhythm disorder, or a prior heart attack;
Suffer from renal disorders or liver disorders.

It is also not recommended in pregnant women; women that are planning on becoming pregnant and nursing mothers.

Drug Interactions:
Other Parkinson's medications;
Metoclopramide (Reglan);
Isoniazid (Nydrazid);
Phenytoin (Dilantin);
Papaverine (Pavabid, Papacon, Pavagen, Pavacot);
Hypertension medication;
An antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Vanatrip), doxepin (Sinequan), nortriptyline (Pamelor), and others.
