The generic name of this medication is azithromycin and zithromax.

Azithromycin is manufactured by Changzhou Sito Veterinary Medicine Company Limited.

The active ingredients of this medication are an azalide and a subclass of macrolide antibiotics.

Inactive ingredients of this medication include: anhydrous hydroxypropyl; cellulose; sodium phosphate; sucrose; tribasic; and xanthan gum.

It is primarily used in treating mild-to-moderate bacterial infections.

Common Uses:

This medication is used in the treatment of mild-to-moderate bacterial infections and sexually transmitted diseases.

Off Label Uses:

The off lable use includes treatment of conditions like:
Acne;
Cat scratch disease;
Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) in HIV-infected;
Pertussis or whooping cough;
Prevention of bacterial endocarditis.

Side Effects:
Diarrhea;
Headache;
Loose stools;
Nausea;
Stomach pain;
Upset stomach;
Vomiting.

Cautions / Warnings:

Not recommended in people with:
Allergic reactions to this medication or any of its ingredients as well as other macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin;
A history of taking medications like dofetilide; nilotinib; pimozide; propafenone or tetrabenazine;
A history of renal disease; liver disease; and cardiovascular disease.

It is also not advisable in pregnant women or those that are planning on becoming pregnant as well as nursing mothers.

Antiarrhythmics like disopyramide or dofetilide;
Anticoagulants like warfarin;
Astemizole;
Carbamazepine;
Cisapride;
Cyclosporine;
Digoxin;
Domperidone;
Ergot derivatives like ergotamine;
Maprotiline;
Methadone;
Nelfinavir;
Nilotinib;
Paliperidone;
Phenytoin;
Pimozide;
Propafenone;
Quinolone antibiotics like levofloxacin;
Rifampin;
Rifampin;
Terfenadine or tetrabenazine;
Theophylline;
Triazolam or tyrosine kinase receptor inhibitors like dasatinib.

29 Sep 2011	I was prescribed Sandoz Azithromycine for upper respiratory infection. Took first dose as prescribed: 2 pills @ 250 and 24 hours later 1 pill @ 250. Developed severe allergic reaction and rash at night time, had to go to the hospital for shot of antihistamine and steroids to stop it. Had to take antihistamine for 3 days after that because its a strong antibiotic and it stays in the system for a couple of days. Very upset because for those two days that I was taking antibiotic it worked incredibly well, down side was the price - $110 for 6 pills and allergy reaction. —Posted by Art Respond Display Name: Email: (Required) Notify me of new comments Email me monthly survey results Sending... 21 Feb 2011	A z-pak has always been my antibiotic of choice since I am allergic to penicillin.
