15 Mar 2012 Shortly after starting a short course of this medication I starting having irregular (skipped) heartbeats upon light exertion. It took me two weeks to put two and two together and I have now stopped the medication. I have had irregular heartbeats in the past but they had not bothered me for several years. Also, I have experienced difficulty sleeping including trouble getting to sleep and/or mid night wakefulness. Recently I have experienced diarrhea. This drug does not seem to be worth using for my mild symptoms of adult acne! Wish I'd been made aware of side effects before starting on it.

15 Feb 2012 I was prescribed this medication after complaining to my doc about pelvic and lower abdominal pain. I was fine 100 mg to be taken twice daily. I'm not on this tablet for a week as yet and already I'm unable to sleep for more than 4 hours, I'm experiencing fatigue, and infrequent headaches. I've only taken six tablets. The abdominal pain was not subsiding so I went back to my doctor I've now learned that I'm at least 2 weeks pregnant. The effects on pregnant women were outlined to me and now I must decide whether I'm to keep the baby that may be born with undeveloped bones or terminate the pregnancy. This is one horrible tablet.

29 Nov 2011 Hi, I was described Actavis (brand name)DOXYCYCLINE 100mg twice a day for 14 weeks due to a suspected Urine tract infection or Prostrate problem. Week One after a few days I started to fill fatigued and short tempered, by the end of the week it got progressively worse. Week Two I started to feel very down and very depressed and having thoughts that the whole world was against me and found it very difficult to stay a sleep for long spells of more than an hour it seemed . On day 13 I woke with very bad feelings and on the train to work that morning I started to think that I could not face the station because one everyone was looking at me and two that I felt I need to cry (Im a 40 year old male). I got the strength to get off the train once everyone had gone as I walked along the street but I felt my starting to cry. I got to work , luckily to an empty office and burst into tears . I rang my wife who offered to come and get. I rang the Doctor who advise me to finish the coarse then a few days later later any feelings I felt would start to subside. No way only had one day to go but could not face another day of feeling spaced out and extremely depressed , feelings that I have never felt before . After days and days of fatigue and depression I could not take it any more, I thought at the time I was having a nervous breakdown. That was November 2011 when they were prescribed by a NHS GP in Kent in the UK. But yet after searching a couple of forums was reading of people having very similar problems for 4 – 5 years whilst on this drug! I feel it must be a sign of the times with Doctors having to prescribe cheap drugs on the NHS whilst surely knowing these side effects exist. If you are brave enough to start a course of this drug please please please educate your mind into knowing its the prescription drugs causing your thoughts and depression or better still return to the Doctors surgery and demand a different drug!

05 Feb 2012 Our 19 year old son committed suicide on day 6 of this medication. He was very intelligent, athletic and happy. Very happy - all his short life. It was completely out of the blue. He had never experienced depression and was from a loving family. He was extremely close to his 3 brothers and also a tight group of friends he had grown up with. We are in no doubt that he had an adverse reaction to this medication. One minute he was eating breakfast and texting his friend to bring whites for him to the cricket match and 17 minutes later he was dead. That morning's dose kicked in and obviously caused some sort severe depression - with an unbearably tragic outcome. I doubt the medical profession believes it but anyone who knows our son and our family well most certainly do.

18 Nov 2011 This particular drug (100mg, baby blue capsules) did not give me many side effects. No nausea even on an empty stomach, no vomiting, very slight reaction to the sun. However, I noticed a marked increase in fatigue and depression. I have a feeling of being just completely wiped several hours before my normal bedtime. This drug is being taken once a day for 30 days to clear the increased acne as a result of taking Androgel.
