Bitch's milk (from female dogs) is an ancient medicine and was recommended by Pliny to stimulate the expulsion of a dead fetus, and to treat ovarian pain, and cervical and uterine problems. Sextus, an ancient Greek physician, found it useful for light intolerance and inflammation of the inner ear. Sore throats, tonsillitis, and cervical erosion (wearing away of the cells lining the cervix) are treated with this remedy. It is very helpful when symptoms alternate from one side of the body to the other. For example, with a sore throat the pain may start in the right side of the throat, then move to the left, then back to the right. It is also a common remedy for swollen breasts before menstruation and for breastfeeding problems.
